2012 Climate Leadership Summit

About

Summit Focus
Economic Renewal: jump-starting a sustainable economy
through the ACUPCC

The 2012 Climate Leadership Summit will focus on the following themes:

  • Preparedness: Career preparedness and the relevance of higher education in the 21st century; connecting curriculum and the job market
  • Opportunity: Increasing access and affordability; cost savings and new funding sources
  • Innovation: Campuses as cradles of innovation through research, experimentation, and role-modeling solutions in operations

In addition, the ACUPCC Climate Leadership Summit has the following objectives:

  • To determine how institutions can assist each other in overcoming challenges by identifying specific approaches to achieving climate neutrality and education for sustainability.
  • To expand the perspective of attendees regarding the vision for a sustainable society and how to make that vision a reality.
  • To identify what the ACUPCC can do collectively to support all higher education institutions in advancing sustainability on their campuses and helping the rest of society to do the same.

Signatories to the ACUPCC recognize the need to address global warming by eliminating net greenhouse gas emissions and producing graduates with the understanding and capacity needed to make sustainability a key element of policy and business decision-making alike. Higher education is the only sector in the US that has made an official commitment to climate neutrality through the ACUPCC. These colleges and universities are the leaders in making the changes needed to move society along a more sustainable path.

The Annual ACUPCC Climate Leadership Summit offers a unique opportunity for senior leadership – including presidents and chancellors, provosts, and financial officers – from colleges and universities around the country to meet with one another and participate in a high-level dialogue about how to achieve the goals of the ACUPCC and promote sustainability on their campuses and throughout all of higher education
