The First Annual Climate Leadership Awards were presented at last year's ACUPCC Climate Leadership Summit in Denver, Colorado, held this past October. The Climate Leadership Awards recognized the best examples of ACUPCC signatories that shifted behavior on campus and within communities to make a low-carbon economy possible. In total 12 awards were issued – nine for Institutional Excellence in Climate Leadership and three for Outstanding Individual Climate Leadership. Receiving Awards for Institutional Excellence:
- In the Associate College Category, the recipients were Pasadena City College and the Alamo Community College District
- In the Private Baccalaureate category the recipients were Dickinson College and Warren Wilson College
- In the Public Baccalaureate Category the recipient was the University of Maine at Presque Isle
- In the Private Doctorate Granting category the recipients were Cornell University and The University of Pennsylvania
- In the Public Doctorate Granting category the recipients were Ball State University and University of California – San Diego
Receiving Awards for Outstanding Individual Climate Leadership
- By an Implementation Liaison; the recipient was Jesse Pyles, Sustainability Coordinator, Unity College
- By a President; the recipients were George Dennison, President, University of Montana and Jean Goodnow, President, Delta College
